Portfolio Update August 2026
A review of the stock market and my portfolio moves - Month 24
This month marks the 2 year mark of these portfolio updates, with the first half also being available in video format and my current home setup with a little one crawling around making that a far more difficult task! What to say about August other then it was another smoking hot month here with a ton of rain on the weekends much like July. Index wise it has been pretty sleepy but we have seen SAAS stocks rally, let’s hope that continues into the end of the year!

My Moves
I continue to scale back deploying new cash in my portfolios in prepartion of moving and upgrading our vehicle. With the two exceptions being:
- RESP small contributions each month to maximize the grant ($500) requiring ($2500) contributions in the year.
- Work RRSP for both the match and pre-tax deductions.aside from my work RRSP, RESP and reinvesting dividends/
With that being said I did make a smaller contribution to the spousal RRSP and spread everything out keeping the same ratio.
Following the pattern from July I liquidated another position for redistribution… any guesses?
TFSA Buys & Sells
- SOLD
- SHOP Funnily enough shortly after I sold my partner and I discussed waiting until next year to move. Meaning I likely could have sold this later as I believe it will rally into the end of the year but it never hurts to lock in gains. I had held this stock since April 2022 with buys into 2023
- For:
- 48% VDY
- 40% VFV
- 10% HXQ
- 2% CASH

- CASH (manual DRIP)
AMD and GOOG are still being actively monitored for more trimming or exiting as I have been holding both since end of February 2025 and plan to sell by year end. CRM has had a fantastic post earnings rally and I am hoping to exit this position by year end as well. META if it rallys hard by year end I will likely sell it and if not I will increase the position size and hold into 2027 as hopefully my only single stock.
TFSA Breakdown
RRSP Buys & Sells
As mentioned earlier I did half a normal contribution this month as I battle between holding cash on hand for upcoming expenses and investing. I can always make some large contributions in the first 60 days of 2027 to maximize the tax refund
- BOUGHT
- 60% VFV
- 20% QQCL
- 20% **BANK
My RRSP Breakdown

Spousal RRSP Breakdown
Dividend Increases and Decreases
- CASH 0.10 -> 0.84
Fear and Greed Index
The CNN Fear and Greed Index is hovering around 45, neutral bordering on fearful, in the broader stock market. The Crypto Fear and Greed Index is well into greedy territory at 78. Crypto isn’t something I talk about much but I put a small amount into BTC with every pay.
Wrap Up
Celebrating two full years of portfolio updates, August brought a wonderful mix of milestone reflections and exciting SaaS stock rallies! While the summer weather stayed smoking hot, we locked in some fantastic gains by trimming Shopify, made smart strategic adjustments for upcoming life expenses, and kept our long-term investment momentum thriving. Here’s to continuous growth, great consistency, and looking forward to an even stronger finish to the year!
