Portfolio Update March 2026

A review of the stock market and my portfolio moves - Month 19

First quarter is down which marks 3 months down as parents. Honestly the little one has been great and we’ve even opened an RESP for her 🙌. While the world is pretty wild these days I’m glad we can focus on our new family.

Major Indices VS My RRSP

The indices across the board are way down since the beginning of the month. Looking back since the beginning of these updates I’m pretty sure this is the worst month that we have had so far. However since we are early in our journey still technically this is a great thing for us 🎉.

My Moves

March was another very busy month for me as we got our tax returns back this month and I decided to buy in chunks this time. Typically I have just dumped it all in the market straight away and have usually regretted it. To be fair looking back it doesn’t really matter but it hurts at the time. I also exited another position

TFSA Buys & Sells

  • exited QQCL and split it between:
    • HXQ (the majority) wanted to keep the allocation but decided to go with the index form over covered call ETFs
    • CRM and HHIS
  • Buy
    • VFV,
    • HXQ, HHIS, CRM
  • Sold CASH on a few occasions to buy
    • CRM
    • HXQ
    • META

Looks like I called it last month with the QQCL -> HXQ. The other one I teased was HDIV -> VDY. To be honest I have way less conviction with this one, but, time will tell!

Just like last month this would leave me with HHIS and BANK only for covered calls which I’m good with. My prediction for the next few months is either flat or decrease overall which is supposed to be ideal for CC ETFs. If we get a big decrease I will likely switch out at that point so I can hopefully capture all of the upside coming out of it.

For my RRSP this month I did something different and bought QQQM. Then I did went wild and sold all of my SCHD for you got it QQQM. In the spousal account we bought some QQCL and some VFV

    • VFV
    • QQCL
    • QQQM
  • Exited SCHD -> QQQM

Dividend Increases and Decreases

Nothing of note this month!

Fear and Greed Index

Nothing to say but holy fear batman. This is looking worse than April last year. Still not crazy COVID levels but it is the next closest thing since I have been in the stock market. At time of writing we are sitting at 15 but it did dip into the single digits over the last few days.

Wrap Up

March included opening an RESP, many purchases over the course of the month and I am slowly digging into cash reserves to buy this dip! Finally we got our tax returns and that money has now been fully deployed. Thanks for checking in and I’ll see you next month
